Before this internship, I didn't know anything about environmental protection. I have learned how to be a more active participant in my community and how I can educate others.
01

What I Knew vs. What I Know Now

I came in knowing nothing about environmental protection. I'm leaving knowing that heat, power and food are community issues before they're technical ones — and that the people who need the plan most are usually the last ones consulted about it.

02

The Moment I Surprised Myself

Watching Thrash, I said out loud that people in a coastal city should have been taught how to handle sharks — and that the news never told people without cars how to evacuate. Nobody else caught that. It taught me my instinct for the missing detail is worth saying out loud.

03

What I'm Taking With Me

New friendships and knowledge — in that order. Creativity is not just about visuals and art. It's about utilizing several different perspectives to problem solve. And I learned that creating a website is achievable.
